From the Vivaltus project in the Ribera del Duero comes this exceptional wine, a tribute to one of the founding figures of Grupo Yllera, Don Jesús Yllera. A vibrant, enthusiastic, and warm-spirited man, he participated in the creation of this wine of great elegance and complexity. Founded by the Yllera family in Rueda, Valladolid, Bodegas Yllera has grown into one of Spain’s most celebrated family-owned wine groups, with a deep commitment to quality winemaking across multiple denominations of origin. The Jesús Yllera Crianza represents the heart of their Ribera del Duero vision, a wine that honors tradition while embracing modern winemaking precision.

The Vintage

The 2018 vintage in Ribera del Duero delivered excellent conditions for slow, even ripening. Cool nights and warm days through the growing season preserved natural acidity while building concentration and complexity in the fruit, producing wines of structure, freshness, and great aging potential.

Vineyard & Terroir

Old bush vines aged 45–50 years, grown at elevations between 700m and 1,000m above sea level. The soils are a mix of clay and sand, which together provide excellent water retention and drainage, contributing to the wine’s depth and mineral character.

Winemaking

Grapes are harvested entirely by hand, with a double selection process carried out both in the vineyard and at the winery. An optical sorting table ensures only the finest fruit is used, and the winery is filled by gravity to preserve the integrity of the grapes. Whole berries without stems are used to enhance fruit expression. Daily pump-overs manage color extraction and temperature control throughout fermentation. Malolactic fermentation is followed by clarification and racking before the wine moves to barrel and then bottle.

Aging

12 months in French oak barrels, followed by additional rest in bottle before release.

Sensory Notes

The wine presents a deep, intense dark cherry color with a tinted rim. The nose is explosive, highly aromatic, modern and elegant, offering ripe dark fruits including plum, blackberry and blueberry, alongside intense notes of vanilla, cocoa, licorice and toasted oak, with additional spiced and mineral nuances of flint and pencil lead. On the palate, the tannins are ripe and generous. The wine is powerful, dense, lush, broad and velvety, with superb acidity that delivers great freshness. The finish is long and elegant, inviting another sip.
